About Us

We’re a travel channel dedicated entirely to East Africa. We aim to give you the tips, guides, and know-how to explore this region to the fullest.

Less-focused on safaris, our specialities are beaches, nature walks, restaurants, shops, and day trip activities. We speak to the budget-minded adventurous spirit with a taste for the finer things and a sensibility for sustainability.

Why Port of Peace? ‘Port of Peace’ is the english translation of ‘Dar Es Salaam’. This is the city where we met, where we spend most of our time together, and where our travels started from. Also, one of our names is Peace! So, this is what we chose as the name of our channel.

Peace Kasinja

From Tanzania, Peace grew up in Bukoba before going to study Education at the University of Dar Es Salaam, and has stayed in the city since. As well as teaching, Peace has worked in hospitality, beauty, and ran her own business for a time. Now, she is focussing on her true passion: social media.

Born and raised in East Africa, Peace has always considered herself and expert on the region. However, as she travels, she discovers more and more that she never knew. With an eye for fashion, a nose for good restaurants, and a feel for the real East Africa, she’s excited to share everything she finds out.

Tom Rusbridge

Tom is from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in the UK and studied Creative Writing At Royal Holloway University of London. He is a copywriter of almost 5 years specialising in SEO with a background in African Tourism, specifically the sustainable and nonprofit space.

Tom spent much of his 20s travelling in Southern Africa as a digital nomad, volunteer, and at times just a backpacker. He first came to East Africa in 2023 thinking he’d seen enough of the continent and that it was time to move on after one last country, Tanzania. Upon arrival, he quickly changed his mind and has not been anywhere else since.

We’re just a couple looking to share stories from our trips, meet new people, and hopefully inspire some others. Still, there are few intentions we have for this channel and our content. We aim to:

  • Celebrate East Africa – We both love this region. We want to show everyone why we love it and for them to love it too
  • Show More of Africa Than Safaris – East Africa is the premier safari destination on the planet, but it’s so much more too. We want to highlight the culture, cityscapes, luxury, and adventure of East Africa.
  • Promote Sustainable Travel — We’re staunch believers in the role that the travel industry can play in global conservation, by both directing funds to vital conservation projects and by inspiring travellers to be more eco-conscious.
  • Learn and Grow – From building a website, to managing our own content calendars, to building a community, this is all new to us and we’re learning everything as we go. We’re excited to build skills, knowledge, and connections in our industry.

Our current trip is just one of many, but this is what our journey route looks like!

This route is subject to change. We’re already thinking of adding destinations along the way. This map should cover the main stops though.

Essentially, we have a year set aside for the trip and we’re trying to see as much as we possibly can without rushing too much.
